Obstetric cholestasis

This is a condition where the hormones produced in pregnancy affect how the liver works. This results in abnormal liver function tests and raised bile acids (a breakdown product of recycling red blood cells). Bile acids cause itch and irritation in the skin. If you are concerned about itch you should consult your doctor.
